The young man sighed faintly to himself as he sat against a rock on the damp sand. It was a cool spring morning, early yet, and the sky was hidden by clouds that could promise either rain or sunshine. Closing his eyes that were of the lightest of blues, he tipped his head back until it was resting against the cool surface of the rock, letting the breeze play with his copper-brown hair. To help keep the chill from his bones, the young man wore a pair of what seemed to be old leather pants that were a bit on the loose side, a pair of boots that had likely seen better days but could still clean up nicely, a plain white shirt with long sleeve, and a dark blue jacket that was left open. Obviously, this was his everyday attire, the things he worked in, though this was more drawn from the fact that his clothing still smelled strongly of runnerbeasts
As he sat there, Xaiorynth knew that he wouldn't stay warm forever, but he didn't particularly care at the moment. Although he had only recently been Searched, it felt like it had been for far longer. There was a part of him that wondered what he had gotten himself into, that regretting accepting to come despite being encouraged by his parents. They were always an odd pair in his eyes... but he couldn't shake the feeling that they had more or less gave him his things a pushed him out the door only to get him out of their home. Again, the Journeyman sighed. He loved the, he really did, but at the same time... It needn't be thought about. They were his family, his parents, and that was all that mattered. Now all he needed to do was somehow survive in a place of strangers and strange things... His dreams were of runners, not the draconic creatures that seemed to like feasting on them.
Frowning faintly, the man tipped his head forward and opened his eyes to watched the cold waves crash upon the shore for a few moments before getting up. Silently, he patted off the gritty sand from his backside and approached the water with his hands stuck in his pockets, a distance expression adorning his face. It had been a long walk to get down to the beach alone, but he hadn't minded – he relished the exercise. He was so accustomed to working that waiting for a clutch to harden and hatch seemed like waiting in limbo, even if he had been assigned chores. It just wasn't the same.
Xaiorynth wasn't certain how long he had stood there like that, but he was taken out of his reverie by the fine mist that had begun falling from the darkening clouds. Scratch the 'fine mist'... He was all too soon discovering that it was turning to a true rainfall. Cursing his luck, the beastcraft journeyman looked around for some sort of shelter in the unfamiliar terrain. Of course, he knew that there was some a little more than two miles from where he stood, but he'd rather get out of the rain a little sooner. As the rain began soaking through his clothing, Xaiorynth was leaning more and more towards walking back on foot, if he didn't from something soon.

Silently the dark storm grey eyes had watched the waves come towards him, only to retreat further away, and them another wave came. It had been like this since he had came, and still, sitting upon the sand, his arms wrapped around his legs, he couldn’t help but be mesmerized by the sight of them. Nature was a wondrous thing. It was a gift that had been given to them so long ago. Unfortunately, so many people had stopped seeing the beauty in the world around them. Everything had to be ordered. Everything had to be organized. There was no more time for simply sitting there and enjoying life. Those thoughts only caused him to sigh softly as he placed his chin upon his worn out pants, his hand straying softly to the coat that rested upon the ground beside him, making sure that the dampness hadn’t sunken in. Upon the coat, there was a sketch book, with a few charcoals. It was his life, drawing the beauty around him, forming it into different shapes and molds. He even knew that his coat was very water resistant, but it didn’t stop him from double checking.
With a gentle sigh, the man swiped the jacket and the book into his arms as he lithely brought himself to his feet. The sand was chilly, damp, he was sure that there would be a nice wet splatter upon his rear if anyone were to catch him upon the beach. But they were on southern, it would get warmer, and fast too. A loose shirt hung around his shoulders, buttoned only at a few of the top ones as he strode, barefoot within the sand, practically floating as the breeze swept through his hair, scattering it to all the directions of the wind. It was beautiful out, relaxing.
Silently walking along the sandy beach, it was only after a few minutes that the candidate noticed the other man, standing beside the water, a distant expression upon his face. And slowly, without warning, his fingers started to twitch, the need to draw suddenly urgent in his mind. Without thinking, the sketchbook was opened as he stood there, one arm holding the book and jacket, while the other hand worked frantically across the paper, attempting to catch the scenery, the distant look within the man’s eye. It was gorgeous. He was gorgeous near the water too. Of course, he’d never admit to that one.
For how long he sketched the scene before him, he knew not, but before he knew it, there were droplets of water landing upon his hands, almost within his sketchbook. Deftly he snapped it close as he wrapped his jacket around it, just as the sky opened up, and water poured. He pulled his sketchbook safe within his coat to his chest as he tilted his head back, the water flowing down his face, and into his hair. He was going to be soaked, but there was a part of him that simply adored the thought, of just being out in the rain. And a good part of him wanted to simply start dancing. It had been turns since such a thought ever crossed his mind.
The wetness was seeping into his clothes, causing his shirt to cling to his chest, making his hips horribly prominent. It was then that the thought passed through his mind. I knew I should have worn different pants. Now, I look like a woman!
Of course, considering the situation, it was true.

It was in looking around the Xaiorynth spotted him, this… person holding their coat instead of wearing it, seemingly reveling in the rain. He paused, watching the other for a moment, forgetting about the water that was seeping into his own clothing due to the fact that he hadn’t thought of the possibility of rain. However, the more he watched the other, the more the young man got the impression that he was looking at a woman, but there was something wrong with that thought. However, he didn’t have much choice but to settle for a tentative ‘she’. The figure definitely didn’t lead one to think that she was in fact a ‘he’… Not with her appearance, at least.
Realizing that he had been staring, the Journeyman quickly turned his aqua eyes away, his face flushing faintly with embarrassment. After a moment, he opened his mouth to say something, and then closed it again, finding no words to speak. What did one say at the beach in the rain to a complete stranger? A better question to ask would be why he wanted to say anything at all. As the water ran down his face like streaming tears, Xaiorynth chanced to look at the other again, his wet hair hiding some of his face. There was a part of him that was glad that this ‘woman’ wasn’t looking his way. Women always seemed to want something or need some sort of attention that he was apparently either ignorant of, or unconsciously unwilling to give.
“Don’t you think you should… get out of the rain?” He asked quietly after gathering up the nerve to speak, his voice only a little louder than the rain falling on crashing waves. Oh, how he despised taking the initiative to make ‘first contact’. Generally, he made a rule of only interacting with people that he needed to… Call him claustrophobic, but too many people around simply made him uncomfortable, as is he were being crammed into a corner. Again, the Journeyman looked away, his eyes falling upon the water, shy even if he would never admit to it. Who was he trying to fool? He was incompetent at anything social… That included trying to make friends, or even holding a conversation. But, that had never bothered him before. All that he could really hope for was that he wasn’t blushing again. He could never tell when he was, and he was under the impression that his face was tinted with pink and red more often than not.
How embarrassing.

The rain was falling down the man’s face as he allowed his long fingers to gently pull the coat closer to his chest. It was perfect out here, the storm, the rain, the beauty of the ocean. It sang to him and captivated his soul as it danced amongst his mind. Relaxing. Far too long had he been without the rain upon his face, it’s gentle caress washing away all the worries that traversed his mind. It was nice to have this release, yet he knew that he would have to walk away from it shortly. Notebooks never faired well in the rain, after all. And if all he had left was soggy pages, he would be highly disappointed that he hadn’t given away his sketches to those that deserved to have them.
Slowly he heard a voice speaking to him, breaking him from his reveries. As he turned around, he noted the faint blush upon the other man’s face, and a bright smile traveled across his own. His ears had barely captured the sound, but he allowed himself a moment to go over the sound of it, the music in his voice. His fingers twitched, the need to open up his sketch book and to give his ideas a chance to soar was more than tempting. Luckily for Xynth, the rain was stopping him from doing so, or once more, the man would be a model.
“It is very probable!” He chuckled as he watched the other look away. He couldn’t help but wonder why. Had he said something wrong? It is only then that he realized that he didn’t even need to look at the boy to see his picture perfectly within his mind, how many pictures had he sketched?! The faintest of tints crossed his cheeks, but he hoped that the rain would hide it.
“Couldn’t the same be said for you, stranger?” He inquired with a laugh as he gently stretched out a delicate hand. “I’m…” his name was going to be a pain to say… Go for the nickname! “Aziae.”

Xaiorynth peeked at the other a bit, watching her without watching her. Well, that was to say... until he heard her... him speak, laughing, even. Realizing his mistake, the man lowered his gaze to watch the suddenly very interesting sand, his face flushing a brighter shade of red. How could he have made such a mistake? How did one make such a mistake? Already, he could feel heat in his ears despite the cool rain, which likely meant that he was a lovely shade of crimson that no amount of hair in his face or rain would be able to hide.
“I-I... suppose...” He replied, stuttering faintly, then biting down on his tongue a bit. In his mind, he was desperately searching for something to divert his attention to, to distract himself, but there was nothing... The beach was more or less deserted, and the only other thing that moved, walked, and talked was this wom-... man. This man. He was going to have to get that straight in his mind. “I'm.... Xaiorynth.” He replied automatically at the introduction. So his name was Aziae... He had a feeling that he would be have a hard time forgetting this particular memory whenever he saw the man next, if ever he did. Xaiorynth was hoping for something more along the lines of 'never again'. It was embarrassing, and he had made a fool of himself. To his mind, at least.
“Why... Why are you down here?” He asked after a moment, trying to keep his stuttering to a minimum. He just didn't know what to do... He hadn't expected to meet anyone down there, much less... this. It was only then that his mind processed that the man held a waterproof coat, and yet he was not wearing it. How odd. Didn't that defeat the purpose of the coat? Mentally relieved that he had found something to at least mildly distract him from his thoughts about how one could mistake a man for a woman, Xaiorynth began attempting to calm down a bit, to try and get the blood out of his face so that he didn't look so much like a bright red balloon. Not that he was having much success, since it was very much still on his mind. But he could pretend, couldn't he?

Aziae looked at the man, smiling softly in greeting, easy to welcome others. It was only under the scrutiny of an artist’s eye that he noted the colour upon the other’s cheek, which caused him to chuckle faintly, shaking his head. His face was going crimson, and he couldn’t even fantom as to why the other man would change colours so drastically around his presence. Had he said something to shame or embarrass him? Was it the fact that he wasn’t wearing anything to protect himself from the rain? If that was the case, maybe it was he that should be embarrassed and not the other? He didn’t quite understand it, but that was okay. He couldn’t dare ask, that was too rude.
He chuckled softly as the other stuttered, though more at his words. Slowly he brought his attention towards the heaven’s, his eyes closing for a moment as the rain washed down his face, forcing his hair to cling to his neck and back. He was soaked through, and it was marvelous. He had no idea why some people hated the rain so much, he found it quite a wonderful thing. There was nothing like the rain anywhere else! It was always refreshing, and down South, it was never anything more than cool. It was magnificent.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Xaiorynth.” He stated as he placed out his hand, waiting for the other to shake it. “I was here sketching… And well… when it started to rain, I couldn’t let the water touch my sketchbook and charcoals… Hence the reason why the coat is in my arms.” He spoke sheepishly, smiling almost shyly. “Actually, there are some pictures of you… I’m sorry… I should have asked… I was planning on giving them to you…” He admitted, looking towards the ground, almost waiting for a scolding.
“Do you want to try to get out of the rain?” He inquired, praying that the other would yell at him too badly. It hadn’t been his intention to draw him, it had just happened. His expression had been perfect. It would be hard to make him understand that, besides, he was also rather attractive. If the man allowed him to keep only one picture, he’d be happy.

Hearing the man’s gentle laughter once more, Xaiorynth couldn’t help but peek at the other, which consisted of flicking his aquamarine gaze at him for a split second. Well, that was until he heard Aziae chuckle a second time, causing him to actually turn his face and look at him, his brows creased into a slight frown. Why was he laughing? Yes, Xynth knew that he was most likely a most brilliant shade of red, but being laughed at usually only made things worse. Still, he didn’t pose the question. He wasn’t usually one to ask questions that didn’t absolutely need an answer, but it was still plainly visible in his gaze. As the other turned his face up to the sky, the he glanced upward to see what could have caught the man’s attention, an eyebrow raised sceptically. There were gloomy clouds, and drops of water… Maybe it was because he had lived in the South his entire life that he couldn’t appreciate the refreshing qualities of the rain, but he still thought the man to be a bit of an odd one. Seriously, he looked too… pretty to be male, and he seemed to be very preoccupied by the spring rain.
In all honesty, Xaiorynth was fine, up until the point that the other spoke to him once more, and held out his hand. He blinked at it for a moment, a little confused, until he realized that Aziae wanted to shake his hand. Kicking himself mentally for his stupidity once more, he nodded in return and quickly shook the other’s hand, water dripping from his own. “You too.” He replied, his voice still quiet, but the stuttering was gone, of which he was far more than simply ‘glad’. It was a blessing. Well, a short-lived blessing, once he heard what the answer to his question. The sketching he could deal with. Honestly, if people wanted to draw, who was he to tell them otherwise? No, it was hearing that the man was sketching him.
Xaiorynth could only stare at him in open surprise at the statement, his lips parted as if he was going to say something, but no sound escaped. Why would anyone wish to draw him? He was half mortified, half flattered, half… something that he couldn’t identify. “You-… Why?!” He exclaimed once some of the shock wore off, even if it was still very much present. He simply couldn’t understand why. He hadn’t been doing anything extraordinary… Just standing around doing nothing but thinking. Still, there was a part of him that was wishing that he was better able to communicate what he was trying to say, but the words just didn’t want to come out.
At Aziae’s question, he nodded dumbly, automatically, having all but forgotten about the rain, what with the heat on he could feel in his face and the revelation that he had been the subject of an artist’s drawings. His mind still processing the man’s words from a few moments ago, the Journeyman wondered why he would want drawings of himself. He knew what he looked like… But he was likely missing the point. Unconsciously, he ran a hand through his wet hair, pushing it all out of his face. What a morning… “Do you… know where w-we can go?” He asked after taking a breath to try and calm himself enough to speak coherently.

Aziae watched as the other looked at him, wondering why he kept watching him. It wasn’t that he was paranoid, but people usually ignored the artist that stood in the rain, enjoying its liberty. He tilted his head at the question in the other’s eye. He wasn’t laughing at the man, not at all. He was simply chuckling at his own amusement. He didn’t know why the other would even think that he was as bold as to laugh about him. For one it was rude, and two, he didn’t want to insult the other in the least. He noticed faintly out of the corner of his eye that the other looked up at the sky along with him, and he swallowed the chuckle. He could tell that the other man didn’t feel the beauty in the rain, or in the dark and gloomy clouds of the storm. He was an artist, he saw beauty everywhere. It wasn’t his fault that the rain upon his skin simply soothed his mind. And watching the rain wash off of the other’s hair, and soak him through created more images in his mind. Created images, the world was his inspiration. There was always something to inspire a person on Pern. He didn’t see how there could be not.
At the short handshake, he nodded his head, seeing the expressions within his gaze change as he had mentioned sketching. Faintly he winced, the other didn’t look too happy with it. Not at all. Some people were honoured or flattered to have had someone draw them, and most were happy to receive it back if they didn’t want the images to be shown to others. His sketchbook was his secret place, the place that he usually kept to himself. The only images that he showed were in his final book, the book where he added the extra clour, the book where he tried to make things more spectacular to the eyes of other people. He much preferred the sketches. It was how he liked to do things.
“You w-wwere… St-st-staring out into the d-d-distance… The w-way the sun was r-reflecting… You looked at-t ea-ease… Thoughtful… I s-s-simply thought…” He fell silent, stammering horribly as he took in a breath to calm himself. “I-I’ll just throw them out…” He mumbled as he looked at the ground, forcing himself to breathe. The other did not seem happy in the least, and he took how the other ran his hand through his hair as a sign that he was trying to contain his impatience… Perhaps he should make his way back to the Weyr. At least then he could hide in his room in shame. When would he learn that he should always ask people before he sketches them? Oh, right. The fact that it ruined the simplicity and the natural poses that he was trying to capture. Silently he just hoped that he could have staid in his bed. At least then he wouldn’t be having these problems.
When the other asked if he knew where they could go, he only shook his head numbly, and then thought about it. “Well… Over there, there is a little cave… It offers some protection.” He spoke softly, looking at the ground. He had almost forgotten the cave, but now that he remembered, he knew it was because he had been sketching it earlier, and trying to catch the sight of a fire lizard darting through the skies. Urgh, talk about a bad day.

In all honesty, Xaiorynth could not understand what went on in the mind of an artist... In a way, he really didn't mind that he had bee the object of the other's inspiration. The thought would still make him blush for some time to come. He was merely... shocked,t o say the least. He was always one to be on the sidelines by choice, if only so that he wouldn't be the center of attention. He hated being put on the spot, or in the spotlight. It was very nearly excruciatingly painful. Almost literally. As he listened to the artist's reaction to his words, there was a part of him that regretted his outburst. He was horrible at communicating. He lowered his head, only to find his gaze directed at the man's chest. It wasn't until a moment later, when Aziae mentioned something about throwing the sketches away that he flicked his eyes off to the side, having caught himself simply staring.
“... Y-you... don't have t-to...” He mumbled, crossing his arms over his midsection so that each of his hands were grasping the opposite side of his waist. The Journeyman decided that he would ignore whatever colouration decided to appear on his cheeks. There was a whirlwind of emotions running wild inside him, and he didn't know how to react to it, much less interpret them. Xaiorynth was merely hoping that the rain would stop soon so he could find someplace that was deserted. Like his room.
At the mention of the cave, Xynth chanced a glance at the man, and nodded. A cave. Well... It was better than nothing... And they would both wind up with a cold or something, the way this was going. They might be in the South, but just watch it happen! It would be just his luck. “O-over where?” He queried, his low. So... They would be stuck in a cave together until the rain stopped... What an adventure this was turning out to be.
