She has a small box at the very bottom of her travel trunk. It’s a nice dark rosewood color with her and her golden wher’s names engraved on the top. She keeps all of her jewelry in it. The inside of the jerkin vest is done up in wherry feathers to keep the body warm during the winter. It’s her favorite vest.
Personality:
Kassea is a very passionate young woman. And it is most evident in her cooking. She loves to cook and it shows. She loves whers and is very happy to have her gold wher, Lehvask. She doesn’t have any children, though she would like to have one or possibly two. But she knows the life of a wher handler isn’t easy. She works hard in her wher duties and as a Senior Apprentice Baker. She is working hard in her craft to become a Journeyman but isn’t in a rush. She didn’t really have any inclination of impressing at all to a wher. It was just a bonus for her that she‘d impressed.
She has an abundance of energy she uses when she’s concocting recipes and it is expressed in her voice. She has a habit of speaking a little faster than normal when she’s really excited about something. Kassea does have a temper, but she’s so good-natured that it takes a long while before she does get angry. Sometimes when she does get angry, she‘s only mad for a short time. Kassea has another side to her that comes out only rarely. And by rarely, means once in a blue moon type thing. She is a complete romantic. She doesn’t let it show because she perceives that to be a weakness and she has a fear of that weakness. She keeps it under a tight control, though it does manage to show itself when her wher has her runs.
History:
Kassea was born as the third child of six. She was born at Benden Hold to a Journeyman Healer, Kaiss, and a Journeyman Smith, Sirean. She was always on the move almost right after birth. She could not keep still for a full ten minutes. She was running with the group of children pulling pranks or finding some kind of mischief. Though she wasn’t the prank kind of child. She had never pulled a prank on anyone. She was just with them for the laughs. Or the punishment when caught, since she was with them. She loved to go for rides on runners at the age of six turns. Her oldest brother, Saisean, taught her to ride in his spare time. And she loved it every moment of it. For a few months after she’d turned 12, Kassea gave some thought to what craft she wanted to apprentice too. She didn’t want to stay at home all her life and not do anything useful. Though helping to clean and cook was useful. She settled on the Baker craft and apprenticed to the Senior Journeyman Cook. She studied hard and worked just as hard.
She had just barely turned 15 turns when she heard a rumor that there was a clutch at Benden Weyr. Kassea decided she would try and left for the Weyr. She was completely overwhelmed when she arrived at Benden Weyr. She quickly learned what she needed to know to survive in the Weyr and was put under the Head Cook Lura. She worked hard and made a few friends. She had only been in the Weyr for a few days when she was taken by firehead. Though she didn’t die from it. She was one of the rare few that made a complete recovery. She learned that it was a golden Wher’s clutch. So she stood to see if she would be granted an egg by the golden Wher. She was granted an egg!
She wanted to help feed the people of the Weyr. So, she settled right down and helped as best she could as she waited for her egg to hatch. Kassea looked after the egg like a human infant. She cleaned the shell between her chores and rotated it like she’d been instructed. And the day dawned when she heard the egg rocking and wobbling. Her wher egg was hatching! She expected a green to come rolling out of the egg. But no, a glistening golden body fell through the fragile shell and the most beautiful golden head, Kassea believes, looked up at her with whirling eyes of blue and green with tinges of red and creeled. She quickly cut her left hand with her belt knife and offered it to the gold wher. The gold wher took it and drank greedily, but took only a small amount. And Impression was made!
From then on, Kassea and Kassesk took their lessons with the other newly bonded Wherhandlers. They went through training together and not much out of any mishaps or bumbling happened. It all seemed to be a whirlwind to Kassea. Now, as Kassea turned twenty turns and Kassesk turned five turns, they wait to see what new events happen to change their lives. Since maturing, Kasseaa has had a few ‘flights’ and produced some good clutches. Kassea has estimated that it is nearing time for when Kassesk has another ‘flight’ but Kassea believes it may still be a good month away. She has had a few nightmares about losing her Kassesk, but she’s never told anyone about them. Only Kassea and Kassesk knows about the nightmares, and neither of them were talking.
One day, Kassea and Kassesk were charged with checking underground tunnels for tunnel snakes and other vermin. They were making their way down a tunnel that was on the far outer reaches of the Weyr, when there was a loud explosion and the tunnel caved in. For a few hours, Kassea was unconscious and her golden Wher was injured with a broken front leg and a short tear in her left wing membrane. Kassesk stayed with her handler, keeping hers warm. The tunnel had collapsed and some light from above ground shone down on them. Because of the light from above, Kassesk had to retreat to the shadows, though she didn’t go far. Kassea regained consciousness after about seven hours. By that time, the sun was already setting. Kassea managed to get to her feet and found she only had bumps and bruises. She quickly tended to her wher as best she could, even took off her light tunic to set her wher’s broken leg.
Once it was dark enough outside for Kassesk to see, Kassea and Kassesk made their way out of the tunnel where it had collapsed. They foraged for food first before trying to search for anyone. Kassea was stunned when she saw what was left of Benden Weyr, her home. A huge meteor had decimated her home! She and Kassesk looked around for other survivors and ran into a brown rider. She talked with him and he agreed to bring her and Kassesk to Southern Weyr. The rider’s brown was careful with Kassesk as he lifted up and winked between to their new home. She’s been at Southern Weyr for two Turns now and Kassesk had laid one clutch last turn. She’d had a run shortly after her leg had healed. She’d been caught by bronze Arresk. Her clutch had been a small once, only five eggs, one had been a dud.
