Name: Minari
Rank: A holder's Daughter
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual
Appearance: Minari is a young looking young woman, looking a bit younger then her true age, sometimes easily being mistaken for 16 turns of age, instead of 19. She has long wavy black hair that falls a bit past her mid back. At times, the odd ringlet can be seen mingling with the other strands. It seems to have been roughly cut when she last cut it, since it isn’t even, but that doesn’t seem to bother her in the least. Her eyes, held above slightly high cheekbones, are what makes one remember her the most, they are deep amber in color, but that isn’t what it striking about them. It is the simple fact that her every emotion is held within her almost golden-brown gaze. Her eyes become alight with some inner fire when ever her moods are ready to be shown. But on most times, they seem dull, almost dazed as though they have never reflected laughter, or perhaps they have never had a reason to reflect it. If one could gaze deeply into their depths, they would see a constant powerful determination that seems to make them glow with life under their cold and uncaring surface. But they also gleam with the same glint as a fox, as though saying ‘what you see on the outside isn’t exactly what I am on the inside’.
Her golden-brown skin seems to be without marks or wrinkles upon first glance, but when one would peer a little closer, they could see faint lighter brown markings, where wounds or scratches turned into scars, must have marked her skin. Her right arm has a lot more of these then her left arm and her legs, since it was always the arm that she used to protect herself when covering her face as she dashed through dense shrubs or trees, or if she felt the Runnerbeasts ready to nip at her, it was still that arm that she used. So it is the one part of her body that seems to hold the most of the intriguing pale-brown markings, running from her shoulders and appearing here and there down her arm, just to stop before her wrists. She also has quite a few white markings upon her sides and her stomach, where running through the trees would allow the branches to grab at her shirt and harm her skin. Her hands seem a bit roughened from hard work, though they still remain almost elegant; them being graced with long almost fragile looking fingers that can have a firmer grip then shown. She has one visible scar upon her ankle, where she was bit by a Tunnelsnake when she was younger, teaching her the lesson of being cautious the hard way.
She will sometimes be seen holding herself proudly and when she does; she will reach a height of around 5’5. Though on most days she walks with a slight slouch or she tries to veil herself from her own gaze, not liking to look upon herself for reasons that seem foolish even to her. The reasons are because she doesn’t want to see any other look than pride in her eyes, but she never has a glass when that happens, and often when she passes a glass, all she can do is laugh because she is often seen with patches of dirt upon her skin from working outside with her family most of the day. Her clothing is mostly male-like clothing, being made by a tanner especially to fit her long legs with a sort of bagginess that allows her to work with her father and hide that she is a young woman working with men. She will often be seen with a sort of clothe tied around her head, making a bandana of sorts to keep her hair from falling into her eyes so she can work with more ease.
She doesn’t seem exactly fragile built for she is lean from hard work and her muscles aren’t bulky yet they are well developed. When wearing a dress, she seems almost graceful and serene, which is probably the reason why she is rarely seen with one, being more prone to prefer to be judged along side the males or by personality, and not by merely being something good to look at. She isn’t sickly thin at all, being thin enough to give herself a fragile enough look from a distance, but up close, it says that she has been through her share of hard work, and that what ever will be left to be shown to her, she is ready to accept it head on, even if she usually hides it.
Personality: Minari seems to hide her true personality behind masks and veils of fake ones, almost fearful that someone would one day be able to break through those mask and see the true her, something that she even fears herself. She doesn’t know herself as most people know themselves, and she will often feel insecure and slightly lost about what emotions are passing through her head, but these are only the thoughts of her heart, visions that no eye, not even her own will capture and be allowed to accept that truth. She hides it even from herself, pushing that single trait that she doesn’t like that much behind, not wanting to see it unless she absolutely had to, because that would reveal to her more then she wanted to know, more then she wants others to see.
This young woman in truth is a bright child with large dreams of someday achieving perhaps the impossible in her eyes, even though she isn’t certain about what she wants to achieve. It has been unknown to her ever since she was a child and it isn’t about to reveal itself any time soon, but she takes great faith in her instincts and she knows that if she would only believe in herself a little more, she could do so much more then she does already. That is saying something for her, because she will often push herself to her limits, ignoring what ever weakness will show, whether it being the needs of rest, pain, sorrow, confusion… It doesn’t matter as long as she knows she can do on. Her determination is what drives her to push herself to her maximum capacity, and that allows her to throw a blind eye to her own needs and she will often place the needs of others before her eyes.
She is feisty at times, and enjoys having a good time, though she must often be pushed and coaxed to even become energetic when not around people who are her close friends or family. But she can be quick to take offense and she won’t hesitate to talk back when she loses control over her emotions (which she keeps a tight hold and watch on). Her anger isn’t the eruption of a volcano as some people; it is more of the deadly silence before a threadfall, a deadly menace boiling far out of reach, but ready to devour anything in sight, and this meaning that she will not hold anything back about what she has to say. The good thing about this is that she can be hard to anger and she has a great patience. If one would not insult those that are close to her heart, for she is very loyal to the people that gain her trust, and it isn’t easily given. Her friends are her life and she would do anything for them, even though she will rarely choose a friend because of her fears. And on the rare times, one will see her take bursts of energy and become hyper, as long as no one is looking and she is only around her friends.
Minari is quite cheerful when she wants to be, offering a helping hand or an ear for those that merely wish to talk. She tries to respect everyone and once someone gains her trust, if they break it, it is even harder to regain, since there aren’t many that she feels the need to trust, because she prefers to have her independence. She wants to be able to run free at times, though deep in her heart, at times, she would wish that perhaps someone would just take that independence away from her and show her a world where working along side others is fun, and where she knows that she doesn’t have to be cold, passive and distant towards everyone else.
This girl is also known under the other names, such as stubborn. She doesn’t give up when she thinks that what she is saying is right and this can be a bad thing for her, since when she does speak up for herself, which isn’t exactly rare, but if it is to a stranger, then it is quite unlikely. She won’t back down. She gets a slight glint in her eye when this emotion is coming through, and it can be easily seen and avoided on most occasions, but on others, she can become quite a pain with her pestering and arguing. Another bad thing about this is that it doesn’t matter if the person is a higher rank then her or not. If she feels the need to express herself she will.
Everything that was described up top is what appears to be on the inside, when on the outside she seems passive, and easily ordered around, doing almost anything one may ask of her within reason, acting as a drudge until that inner fire in her eyes is alight once more, burning brightly in the dark depths of her gaze. She acts as though she doesn’t know much but even when passive, the determination to achieve and to do well in what ever she could be doing is still shown; since she puts extra effort in everything she does, even if it is only washing the floor. The young woman’s greatest joy is to see people happy with what she has done and she will continue to do so.
She has a few fears though, which often make her cold and distant towards people. One of these fears that are held within the body of this young woman is the fear of being rejected, ridicule, harmed by others or finding herself helpless and unable to help. Even though she knows that she can’t do much, for she has only been trained in the basics of healing a few animals, she still wants to try and it tears her heart to know that something has happened and that she couldn’t help out. Because behind her cold uncaring exterior is a girl that only wants to be there for others if ever they need someone.
Her other fear is the fear of wrath. It is the only thing that can make a look of pure and unaltered fear cross through her eyes, plain for all to see. It’s something that she will most likely never forget, and no one knows why she has this fear, not even herself. All she knows is that when ever someone starts yelling, if it’s not at her, she will either walk away, or place a block of ice around her heart to freeze her emotions from passing through. There are times when she will stand up to someone but it is usually to stand up for others. When the yelling is directed her way, she will just take it, bracing herself and turning amazingly cold and harsh, even though terror could and will probably be seen passing through her eyes, even as they become a bit piercing and cold. A less drastic phobia is her hatred towards loud human noises. The dragons can roar until she is deaf… If people start yelling around her, she’ll likely walk away.
History: Minari was born and raised in Ruatha Hold, being the third oldest out of seven children. She is the one of the two only females in the children of her family, but her father often laughs and says that she should have been a male since she always tried to copy her older brothers, wanting to be just like them when she was older. She lived a normal life as a holder’s daughter, running around the house and helping her mother on little errands when she was young and as she grew, she began to feel the need to help others out more and more, and maybe to even be allowed to make someone happy. So she decided to put a lot of effort into her work. Her father taught her to read, write and calculate, since she was the one that wrote the letters to others and when she ran errands, they wanted to make sure that she could do things independently, without being forced to ask someone to calculate or read her something. It was for her own good that they had always pushed her to be all that she could be.
Besides working around the house or with the runners, this child was always found roaming through the wild grass and sometimes running towards forests for a day or two at a time by the age of fifteen. She loved adventure and she couldn’t get enough of dashing about like she had done as a child, never wanting life to catch up to her. She always seemed to smile around her family and friends, but as soon as a stranger came near, it was as though she closed out all of her happiness, and no one besides her knows why.
When she was only a child, they found out very young that she hated the yelling of man (any loud human sound, really, but the daughters of her family were quiet), being brought up in a household where mostly males dominated, they all tried to keep their voices down when Minari was around. They respected her sensitivity towards the subject, even though they didn’t understand why she was this way, and neither did she. It was one day when she came home; she could hear her father yelling at someone, anger dominating in his tone from outside the house. Her mother’s cries didn’t help her feel anymore reassured and as she walked into the house, a friend of the family’s, one that she had liked and all, and someone that she didn’t know had come to their home and they were upsetting her parents. Since then, she had closed her doors to others, making them work their way to see her smile and be happy.
Her life was fun compared and though there were no eventful tragedies or things that happened, she took every moment as a gift. She used to put all her determination into everything she did, and her parents had come to expect their daughter using everything that she had within her small body to get a job done, especially around Runnerbeasts. She adored the creatures with a passion, liking to work with them any day and at any time. She had worked around them for a full night and a full day more then once until she was sent home to get some rest.
Even now, her mind still wanders with dreams her herself being in another’s shoes, or that she would live another life besides the life that she had been following for the past turns. Ever since she had heard that dragonriders were on Search every once in a while, she could feel excitement boiling through her veins, and she often wondered if a day would come where she would be chosen. Many children dream of becoming a dragonrider and she was no different then the rest there. But, instead of keeping those false hopes, and she believes them to be, she keeps her time spent by helping her father take care of the beasts, knowing everything that he has taught her. She knows that she should have gone to the Beast Hall to become a beast master, since her love for them was so great. But, being insecure always made her question leaving her home, and she didn't want to be the one missing if ever her family needed her. So, instead of following a dream, she kept with her family, helping them while her other siblings went around doing what they wanted to do.
Two turns ago, it happened. She was out in the field with her runners when they all became agitated, stampeding around the pen. Despite her most earnest of efforts, she couldn’t stop their anxiety, or qualm their fears. It was then that she noticed the asteroid in the sky, soaring over head. It was then that she saw it crash over the horizon. It was in silence that she waited. A cloud of smoke appeared in mere seconds. She practically watched as the dust spread through the sky, and the gusting winds that followed assaulted their Hold. It was warm, not enough to burn, but enough to have informed her of what had happened, a disaster that she would never forget.
When the astroid struck, her life changed. The runners on their farm got horribly ill, many of them perishing within the aftermath of the impact. The dust that scattered the area made it hard for them to grow their crops. They barely got by, going through the hardships. Her whole family spent their days traveling from area to area, getting the marks that they would need to survive. The boys even went out of their Hold to aid them in rebuilding, hoping to offer their aid. Minari joined them, swallowing her fear of strangers for the hope of a better day, quickly pushing aside all her childhood dreams. The areas of Pern around Fort and Benden would first need to get over this before the liberty to dream would be bestowed upon them again.
