Character Info
Name: Halmari
Rank: Candidate
Age: 19, nearing 20
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: From the far North, the female is extremely unusual in her appearance to most of those in the Southern Continent. Her skin is not pale, but it is a great deal less tanned than most of the Southerners, a complexion accustomed to harsh winters and snows, not to bright sun and tropical conditions. Her eyes are grey, but a lighter shade than usual, a pale color that is nearly white, nearly blending into the rest of her eye. Her pupils stand out in stark contrast, deep circles of onyx in the midst of the grey irises.
Also unusual in the South, her hair is blond, not very pale, but definitely not brown. It is a golden shade, with deeper lowlights underneath that still do not take away from the blonde coloring. It is down to the middle of her back, but usually kept up in some concoction of braids and knots and tucked under half-sheer veils or scarves. Her brows and eyelashes are a similar pale coloration, making her look a little bizarre, as though she lacks them. They are present but rather pale, almost blending into her skin.
Pretty but not beautiful, Halmari has too long a nose and too thin of lips to be ever considered a great catch. She is rather standardly attractive, with high cheekbones and widely open eyes, a sort of square, angular body with distinctive womanly roundness at bust and hip. Of course, she does know how to make the best of her appearance with clothing and cosmetics, although since coming to the Weyr, she almost doesn't know what to do with herself, and so either overcompensates or does not try at all, depending on the day and her state of mind.
Personality: Beaten quiet but not meek, Halmari is a silently resentful female, with a powerful point of view and temper hidden under the conditioning of Turns of enforced docility. In company, specifically around men of rank, she will hardly ever speak, preferring to tuck herself away into a corner so that she will hardly ever be seen. She is not shy, she has just had a difficult life, and is not yet adjusted to the freedom that being at the Weyr offers her.
There are very few people that the young woman thinks she can trust, and she mistrusts unwarranted friendliness most of all. Friendship is something to be earned through a cautious relationship, through exchanges of information until personalities mesh, and until enough proof of trustworthiness has been given. Although she tends to instinctively trust women more then men, she does not really get along with most women, which makes her seem standoffish. Men are closer to her personality type, but she trusts them even less. This is a problem for her, leaving her lonely most of the time.
Although she does not like to admit it, loneliness is a problem for Halmari. Her inability to trust and her lack of any real family connections make certain that she ends up by herself most of the time, and although she dislikes it, she finds it hard to break herself of her accustomed behaviors. For that reason, she instinctively seeks some connection that she can trust, whether it be human or not.
Beneath the standoffish, sullen veneer, the woman has a very strong voice, a very strong desire to rise above the life she has come from. Although not vindictive by nature, she is also not willing to allow other people to walk all over her and take away what she wants in life. She will do almost anything to get what she wants, what she desires, and what she craves to the very core of her being.
History: Born in a small mountain hold, Halmari was never destined for greatness. She and her family were little more than servants to the greater holders, and the harsh conditions of the northern mountains were always difficult to live in. But they made the best of it; they tried to take care of each other and to be content with each other, and to live life with as much happiness as they could.
But her mother died bearing her fifth child, and her father soon after, due to an accident in the mines he worked in. Five children, Halmari the second oldest, were left without parents, and the small hold had no idea what to do with them. The two youngest were taken in as fosterlings, and the eldest was taken away to the minehold to take over his father's job, and Halmari and her sister were sent to the nearby Hold, so that the Lord and Lady Holder might make of them what they would.
Once they had come to the larger Hold, the Lady Holder took Halmari's sister in as a maidservant, someone to work in the kitchens and to clean and serve, not a drudge, but not much more than that. Halmari, however, caught the eye of the Lord Holder himself, and as he was a man with few morals and little love for his wife, he took her as his mistress. The girl was sixteen at the time, and had never expected for her life to take such a turn.
She lived well, after a fashion, given gifts of clothing, jewelry, and cosmetics, so long as she did what she was told. But the Lord Holder was a man of temper, and her spirit was quickly beaten out of her - or at the least, hidden to keep from further punishments. Halmari did what was asked of her in sullen silence, but she never enjoyed it. Though she would never dare to lash out - at least she was living better than she had before - she wished vehemently that she could escape this life. Perhaps when she grew to old to please, she would be gifted a peaceful retirement before her death.
But the Weyr saved her. A Searchrider came and took her away to Southern Weyr, a place she never thought she would see. Although with her usual cynicism she doubted she would Impress to anything, she was now safe and well away from the Hold and all the memories of it - she had a new life, even if it was to be just working in kitchens for the rest of her life. At least she would have her dignity.
Name: Trelath
Type: Dragon
Color: Gold
Age: Hatchling
Egg: Queen Bee
Genealogy: Phaelith x Niketh
Appearance:
Trelath will far outgrow her mother to claim the largest gold on Pern slot that has been vacant since Ramoth passed /between/. As large as she is, she’s lithe and looks more petite than a dragon her size should be. However, it makes her look attractive and rather regal. Of course, Trelath carries herself as regally as can be, wanting everyone to know without a doubt that she is indeed a great queen of Pern. Her head knobs are longer than average, giving others the impression that those knobs of hers serve as her crown.
Her queenly stature spreads to her coloring. She is not as dark as her mother is, but her hide is a very brilliant gold. It looks like she was dipped in molten gold and then hardened into the exact shade of a gold bar. Strange that this is the analogy, as at the bridge of her nose, the gold coloring lightens to an almost yellow color, as though whoever dunked Trelath didn’t get that tiny smudge of area to completely soak her.
Personality:
Trelath seems to be more naturally quiet and insightful than her rider is. She might not bespeak anyone, even her rider, but her body language and nonverbal noises that she makes speak wonders about what she’s feeling. Of course, she has no problem holding a conversation with those she deems worthy of her time – and those who are are few and far between. Like most golds, she’s only concerned with herself, her rider, and the few large male dragons that catch her eye. Unlike her rider, she doesn’t mind being alone. Where her rider will be desperately lonely, Trelath lives for the solitude of her own weyr. However, she is rather trustful of everyone she comes across, unless they do something to break her trust.
Trelath has the memory to actually hold a grudge against another dragon and will do so, as she’s quite vengeful in her own way. Her will is very strong and her rider will be hard pressed to keep Trelath’s equally strong voice from over taking her own. During her mating Flights, Trelath will be even harder to control and to force to blood than other golds. Her rider must be careful to guard her thoughts against things that she doesn’t want Trelath to know, as the gold does have a way of subconsciously suggesting things to her rider, an eerie trait indeed.
