Anyone Recruit You? Your mother
Character Info
Name: Lenia
Rank: Candidate
Age: 17
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Homosexual
Appearance:
Lenia has a sharp, aggressive looking face that screams superiority and self-assurance. Everything about her facial features seem to be sharp and angular, almost having a avian type predatory appearance. Her nose is long and slightly hooked, pointed over her mouth. Her unusually blue eyes look like they're able to pierce through anything. Her eyes are much to be envied despite the fierceness of Lenia's gaze. Every female in her family possesses a pair deep blue eyes and the gene did not skip her, despite the fact that her father's own eyes are quite black. Lenia's black hair falls shortly to the middle of her neck in long tendrils that seem to clump together to form 'fangs' hanging from her head.
Adding to the ferocity of her face is her height as she stands much taller than either her father or mother. She towers over some females her age and it appears that she's growing some. However, she's not very 'womanly' at all. Her figures has almost no curves to it all in spite of the fact that her mother was quite voluptuous. Not that it matters to Lenia, of course. If appearing 'manly' helps her catch the eye of another girl, then she's all for it. In fact, the young woman is known for dressing in attire that isn't made for women. Trousers, tunics cut for men, even men underthings often adorn her body. And of course, her color scheme is generally masculine as well, with deep blues, browns, and brasses.
Personality:
Lenia is stubborn, brash, and hot-headed. She rarely will listen to what someone of a higher authority tells her in respects to completing a task or doing some kind of work. The girl has almost a complete disregard to rank and status of any kind except when it comes to the dragonriders. She acknowledges that if someone had a strong enough personality to Impress to a bronze or gold, then they must certainly command respect and obedience. To anyone lesser than a brownrider, she'll either completely ignore or give the smallest of fake smiles and then pretend to go do what they've asked. However, she will occasionally listen to any rider whose older than 30ish Turns. In that, she's still at least kind of respectful to her father.
In spite of the fact that she's a rather rebellious, disobedient child, she's a hard worker and extremely determined and diligent. Any task that she actually sets herself to herself or is forced to do by someone who can actually control her or bend her to their will is accomplished promptly and with great effort. Rarely will she perform badly at any task given to her no matter how upset she was at being put to the job. In fact, she's usually so consistent and precise with her work that it surprises those around her that attribute her unwillingness to take orders as a sign that she's incompetent. No, for all her bad manners and onerousness, she's dependable once once actually can get her to work.
Of course, her very determined spirit makes it possible for her to literally do or become anything she wants. Once she focuses on a goal, she becomes persistent and dutiful to the cause. Unfortunately, thus far all of her 'causes' have been selfish and have only aided her in gaining strictly for herself. It would be difficult, but it is possible to not only change her attitude towards something constructive, which can be something that is quite sought after, but to make her more of a team player and an asset to the Weyr.
Her brashness and boldness makes her quite unpopular with most of her peers as she speaks her mind as she sees fit and argues for the sake of arguing. She's got very few friends and those who are her acquaintances can't take her in large dosages. However, if one was to break past her contriteness and quarreling attitude, they'd find a loyal and true companion for themselves. Lenia, if she had friends, would be resolutely on their side, right or wrong, good or bad, fair weather or stormy skies. She's also got a surprisingly good sense of humor and, though her wit comprises of quick quips and cunning sarcasm, can indeed take a joke. Lenia isn't the best to try and get along in the work room, but she can be a staunch ally.
History:
Lenia is Weyrbred, although only her father and great-grandmother were ever dragonriders. Her family, for the most part, served their Weyr as strictly Crafters, though several of her family members in the past had been Searched none save her father had ever Impressed.
Unlike most children in the Weyr, Lenia had the privilege, or some would say the misfortune, of being raised almost entirely by her parents. Her mother, it seemed, was incapable of producing another child after Lenia and thus the two decided not to send their only child off to the cretch with the rest of the children of the Weyr. No, she'd been lavished with affection by her parents, but hadn't been spared the rod at all. She attended learning lessons with children her age under one of the Weyr's harpers and found that she despised learning in a classroom type setting with a passion. Still, though, she dutifully attended every single lesson she was assigned to, as she would have felt like she was wasting her time doing otherwise.
As a youth, she was neither rambunctious or mischievous, instead simply hardheaded and stubborn. Rarely would she listen directly to what her parents told her or ordered her to do, but instead did whatever it was that she saw fit in any given situation. Strangely, whatever she end up choosing to do often fell within the bounds of what her parents had instructed her to do and more often than naught, she completed any task set to her.
She did not wish to become a Weaver like her mother, but instead coveted the deep bond her father had with his blue Vorisath. Lenia, for all the years she'd been alive, had longed to sit on the neck of a dragon like her father. But his dragon died suddenly and tragically. During a training exercise, her father had miscalculated how Vorisath needed to make a turn and he was flung off the beast's neck. As he tumbled, the dragon desperately tried to save him, ending up snapping his neck with the effort of twisting. As the blue went /between/ forever, her father was caught by another rider, his life spared. Her father was devastated and...became but a mere shell of the man he once was. No longer happy or content with his life, his weyrmate, his daughter, he shut himself up in his weyr for weeks at a time, refusing to yield the place he'd once shared with his blue beast. As he became increasingly antisocial, those around him began to worry more and more about the man. But how can you reconcile a dragonless man? Eventually, he committed suicide in his weyr, his corpse found lying on the 'bed' that Vorisath slept on.
Lenia had been devastated by the loss of her father, whom she had always considered a strong and wise man. Still, her desire to become a dragonrider had not been dampened despite the fact that her father had offed himself at the loss of his beast. Lenia instead made a vow to herself that if she were to ever Impress, though the likelihood of that was slim to none as she lived her in the South, she would never lose the life of her dragon. Unfortunately, there came the possibility that she may never Impress at all. Firstly, even though she'd lived in the Weyr all her life, had never been Searched by a dragon with her being a girl and all, not even her father's. Secondly, her mother didn't want her any where near the Clutch of a dragon as she was extremely unwilling to risk the chance of her only daughter from her beloved mate committing suicide at the loss of her own beast as well.
But, Lenia, ever the bullheaded and determined young lass refused to bend to her mother's will. She had been tapped as a tanner apprentice at twelve, but was reluctant to become a Crafter, not when she lived amongst a Weyr full of dragons. No, instead, already three Turns into her apprenticeship, she spoke to one of her father's friends, a brown rider, who took pity on her, understanding the loss she'd gone through himself: His weyrmate's dragon had died in a similar training exercise and his lover, too, offed himself. So, the brownrider talked to a blue rider who grudgingly agreed to Search her. Lenia, though determined, wasn't very hopeful that she would be successfully Searched. After all, it was only her father, then her great-grandmother on her father's side had ever become dragonriders. But dragonriding proved to be in her blood and the blue definitely sensed something inside of her and acknowledged her as a Candidate.
When the blue rider informed her mother that she had been Searched, the woman was irate, furious with her daughter for sneaking behind her back and deliberately disobeying her. Lenia would not be persuaded to leave her new-found position as Candidate and she had her mother came to an agreement. She would be allowed to Stand for only the first three Clutches that came about to the Weyr after she was rather needlessly Searched. If she had not Impressed by then, it was back to the Tanners for Lenia. Of course, the girl has no intentions of returning to her apprenticeship unless she absolutely has to. She's going to remain as a Candidate for as long as possible despite whatever her mother wants. In only a Turn she'll be considered an adult by her mother's standards, even old enough to walk the tables as a journeywoman tanner. If she's old enough to do that, then she no longer must obey her mother's every whim...Not that she did so anyways...
After the catastrophe at Benden and Fort, Lenia moved from Ista to the Southern Weyr, hoping to aid the Weyr with the over abundance of Eggs they had to Candidates.
