Character Info
Name: Shula
Rank: Candidate
Age: 14
Gender: female
Sexuality: Hormonal teen, but beginning to lean towards bisexual.
Appearance: Shula is small in the way a stick of dynamite is small. She is very petite and looks younger than her actual age. Although she has started her adult development, she will always be "flat," with a boyish build. She is pale with lots of freckles on her face. Her face is very expressive and it is impossible for her to hide her emotions. One of her most noticeable features is her hair, shoulder length, fiery red curls. Her eyes are a vivid green. Shula usually wears plain clothing good for running around in, and she hates to be stuffed into a dress. She actually has a good singing voice, but rarely uses it.
Personality: A tomboy, Shula refuses to settle down and act ladylike. She likes running, jumping, yelling, climbing. The girl is always moving, a constant blur of activity. She is no meek and mild Holder girl, and speaks her mind always. Shula is extremely outspoken and words tumble from her mouth with no filter. She is a radical and dreams of women Weyrleaders and other such nonsense.
Emotionally, she is still a bit immature. She is brash and she doesn't care what anyone thinks of her. She has been spoiled most of her life and she doesn't understand the word "no." The girl has a bad temper, and explodes all the time. Sometimes she screams and has temper tantrums; other times she has sobbing fits. And it doesn't take much to set her off. Shula is a terror to anyone she doesn't like, and she can decide she dislikes someone on the barest whim. Ditto for deciding if she does like someone. She can be very clingy, and will sometimes attach herself to a person and follow them around.
As a young, hormonal teenager, Shula is a bit weird in her associations with boys. She has been told she should be attracted to them, but she still just wants to wrestle and climb trees and run races with them. She doesn't want to grow up and become a victim to romance, like many older Hold girls she has seen. Anyway, boys are great for fun, but stupid when it comes to feelings, and girls are better to look at.
History: Once upon a time, there was a Harper named Lyvanye. That Harper met a woman named Retasa at a Turn's End Party. Alcohol was involved, and they woke up together the next morning. Nine months later, they met again. Retasa dropped a baby into Lyvanye's arms, informed him that he had ruined her life, and then vanished once more, leaving the Harper to care for his daughter.
That daughter was, of course, Shula. Lyvanye shared her care with an old auntie in the lower caverns. Despite any difficulties she might have brought into his life, he fell in love with her, doting on her and spoiling her rotten. Shula grew up into a precocious child. She did not follow she rules and Lyvanye let it go, believing that rebelling was crucial to freedom of expression.
Shula had a happy childhood, considering that she could do basically whatever she wanted. That happiness was shattered when the meteroids fell, ruining the Hall. She was lucky that her father survived. Together, they moved to the South. Shula was not happy about the move. In her typical selfish manner, she was more upset about her comfortable life being disrupted than the doom of the Northern continent.
Then, a green dragon visited the Hall. That dragon noticed Shula, and the rider invited her to the Weyr as a candidate. The girl was a bit young for the Gold egg, but she showed potential, and the Searchrider urged her to give it a chance. Shula agreed, although she was reluctant to leave her father.
Name: Zalanth
Type: Dragon
Color: Blue
Age: Hatchling
Egg Swords and Shields
Genealogy: Phaelith x Niketh
Appearance:
Small and scrawny, this blue could possibly be mistaken for a green. It doesn’t help matters much that he’s a very bright shade of aqua that actually could be called ‘green’ if one was to squint hard enough at him. His gaze is far more baleful that other dragons and, as he won’t completely grow to the size of an average blue, Zalanth will forever be mistaken for a junior dragon or senior Weyrling, no matter what rank he achieves in life. His lithe size also makes him look a little malnourished in the same sort of way that Xelarith looks over weight. He, like her, is not at all mistreated and eats quite a bit on a regular basis; his rider will find that he can eat almost double that of any other dragonet and still remain and petite as he is.
As small as he is, he’ll be hard pressed to keep up in Flight and Threadfall, as he just doesn’t have the endurance to both maneuver quickly and continue on in long Flights. Still, his body is a little more streamlined than other dragons, allowing him to be a little faster and to fly a little farther if it’s a particularly windy day.
Personality:
In spite of his relatively small size, Zalanth is a bundle of energy. Always on the go and always on the move, Zalanth always wants to gogogo! Impatient, he absolutely cannot stand waiting around for something to happen and thus gets himself in trouble for moving when he shouldn’t or going when he mustn’t. Hardheaded, he runs his mouth about everything and anything whether or not he knows what he’s talking about. Luckily for him, he usually talks fervently about whatever his rider is at any given time, so for the most part his big mouth doesn’t get the best of him. Not a secret keeper, he can’t stand holding in a juicy bit of gossip if he hears it.
Zalanth is immature emotionally, as his rider is. He’s extremely sensitive and usually takes things the wrong way, misunderstands a comment that someone makes about him, and gets very sad. If a dragon could cry, Zalanth would probably constantly be in tears. Someone stepped on his favorite bushel of flowers, tears. Someone eat a calf that he thought as cute, bawling. Someone calls him ‘short stuff,’ won’t speak to them for a sevenday. He feeds off his rider’s temper tantrums and personifies her spoiled nature. If he doesn’t get his way, things are probably not going to be pretty and he has no problems hurting someone’s feelings if he’s in a bad mood. This isn’t to say that Zalanth is a moody and emo dragon, he’s just sensitive. He gets on very well with female dragon and is actually a very humorous dragon if he’s not whining about this, that, and the other.
