Character Info
Name: Raleigh
Rank: Candidate
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Bisexual
Appearance: The complete antithesis of his younger brother, Raleigh is tall and well-built, his skin deeply tanned by the sun, body taut with muscles built from fetching and carrying, as well as days swimming and tramping the coast searching for the elusive fire lizard clutches. Unlike Retselin, Raleigh loves the outdoors, and it shows in his broad-shouldered frame and deep tan, as well as the light scratches and scars on his body, and lighter highlights in his deep brown hair.
He is also better-groomed than his younger sibling, hair long enough to be pulled back into a queue, but trimmed to even ends, all of it kept out of his face. In his old age he will have smile lines around his generous mouth, because he is often found either beaming or laughing. The square jaw that looks a touch awkward on Retselin is perfectly settled in Raleigh's slimmer face, making him look a great deal more like their father than the younger boy.
Also brown-eyed and with the appetite of a clutching dragon, Raleigh is a well-grown young man, but probably likely to shoot up a few more inches in the coming Turns. He is rather taller than his younger brother, but nowhere near any excessively tall height. As he gets older, than will come, more likely than not.
Personality: A great deal more outgoing than his younger brother, Raleigh is a social butterfly, a bit fickle with his affections, although very protective of anyone he considers his friend. He is especially careful of his family, looking after them as though he were almost a father figure. A very typical older brother, watching out for his siblings, making sure they grow up well, and don't do anything too silly.
But he is also a hard worker, taking on a great share of the weight when it comes to Hold tasks, but still making time for frivolity. One of his greatest joys is to wander through the expanses of Southern, swimming in the warm seas, checking coves within walking distance for fire lizard eggs, exploring forests for the wonders they hold. Often with company - he enjoys meeting new people or spending time with old friends or lovers, of which there are more than a few, even at his young age.
Puberty hit him hard, and with his growth he also discovered a great deal of capacity for romantic appetites. He does not particularly care what gender he becomes infatuated with, which is slightly unusual for a Holdbred lad, but as he keeps his trysts secret from both his parents and his siblings, he doesn't have any moral leaders to worry about. He doesn't really think what he does is wrong; it is all simply natural.
No matter what he does with his life, though, he will always return to his protective, nurturing role as an older brother whenever his family calls for him. It is an instinctive part of his personality, and something that will likely be transferred to anyone whom he ever grow close enough to to consider like family.
History: Born and raised in a large family at the Southern Hold, Raleigh has four younger siblings, a pair of loving parents, and a best friend in his next youngest brother. Even though the two couldn't be any more different, they were always near constant companions, the Turn's difference in age doing no more to alter their friendship than their contrasting personalities. And Raleigh never expected more than to grow into adulthood, marry, and take over his father's position as a minor Holder. He never had much of an interest beyond living the life that was set out for him, as he rather enjoyed it.
Age did not change him much, although it did awaken in him an itching to see more, to do more. That was largely what spurred his desire to explore as much of Southern as he could, which he had tried to do as a child, but had been kept from; now he was permitted to wander just about as far as his feet could take him, so long as he always made his way back home. That eased his wanderlust a little, but there was still a small, secretive longing for ever more.
That was also when he began experimenting with relationships that were more than friendships. All of them were clandestine, kept to the shadows, and usually lasted no longer than a score of days at the most. This too helped to alleviate the strange pressure in the pit of his heart, but it was not all he desired. For the first time he began to wonder if this Hold life was truly what he was suited to.
Then the Searchdragon came, and swooped up Raleigh and his younger brother. The pair of them, to go off to the Weyr to stand for a dragon clutch... maybe that hadn't been what his heart had yearned for, but it was certainly something. The desire for more faded away, replaced with an anticipation and excitement. Maybe he could be a dragonman!
Name: Bemresth
Type: Dragon
Color: Bronze
Age: Hatchling
Egg: I Surrender
Genealogy: Phaelith x Niketh
Appearance:
Not as large as some of his fellow bronzes, Bemresth is neither overly muscular nor thin. He seems to have an exactly average weight and build for his size and nothing about his physical stature looks out of place. His neck and tail might be a little longer, but all the better to Catch you with, eh? Because he’s not heavy set, Bemresth is quite a handsome bronze and takes after his late sire Niketh who had a very masculine looking face. His chest is quite broad like his father’s was as well, allowing him for a greater amount and range of flame once he starts using firestone.
In the air, he is a perfect mix of endurance and speed that balance out perfectly because of his size and weight. He can keep up with any of the heavier dragons during a long Flight or Fall and is lithe enough to be agile enough to chase larger greens and ambers. His hide is a very antique looking bronze color with hardly any sheen to it at all. He looks like he’s been dusted over with a thick layer of neglect on a shelf somewhere. No matter how much his rider oils and bathes him, Bemresth will never be any shinier. His lack of glisten makes him burn a bit more energy in the air, though it’s hard to tell.
Personality:
This bronze has a very strong sense of duty and responsibility. No dragon is too insignificant to be properly cared for. In his Weyr, everyone must be well fed, well watered, and well trained. He might not aspire to be Weyrleader, but that won’t stop him from acting like one. However, that shouldn’t imply that he’s arrogant or rank happy – he’s just so set on caring for what is his and what he feels is his responsibility that he has no problems butting in to Weyr affairs to speak his mind on what should be done. Full of ideas, and most of them very good, Bemresth has no qualms about giving suggestions where he thinks they’re needed, but knows when they shouldn’t be spoken. He understand that to help his Weyr, he must sometimes leave matters to those who are in power if he is not.
Vastly loyal to his home, he hates leaving it for extended periods of time, even on Weyr business, for he thinks that if he’s gone for even a moment, all hell will break loose and his home will be destroyed. That being said, he works hard towards the endeavors important to the Weyr. He might not be a large bronze, but he’ll pull his weight as much as even the greatest bronze on all of Pern. He enjoys working, especially if the work he does shows great progress. He is apt to discouragement, however, if he sees that the things he works for falls to shambles. However, he is full of enough hope that he never remains depressed for long. Unlike his rider, Bemrest is too focused on his goals and too driven to settle with another for too long. He’ll linger with the dragon whose rider his own is infatuated with, but he’s too duty-driven to stop for romance. For all that he’s a diligent worker and opinionated about things that are important to him, he does have one devastating quirk: He’s absolutely and completely terrified of trundlebugs. Here in the South, they’re everywhere and Bemrseth can’t go half a minute without squeaking in terror and leaping to the skies to get away from them. His rider should take great care to make sure that there are none in his dragonet’s bed or else…bad things could happen.
