It was midday and Lenia was restless. She'd been bed-bound for almost a sevenday. As much as she could, she'd been tending to Droloth, but activities like feeding and bathing him and proved to be impossible in her condition. The gouges on her back and legs had been much deeper than Lenia would have guessed. In several places Nidoria's black dragon -being called "obsidians" now - had clawed her straight to the bone.
Aside from the baths and oilings that had been given to him by one of the Weyrling Master's assistants, Droloth had been at Lenia's side twenty-four hours. He'd been uncomfortable and cramped inside the infirmary, but at least he and Lenia had been together. He, too, shared his rider's restlessness, but he knew that the Healers had done right to confine her here, as beaten as she was.
Something troubles you, Lenia...What is it? The brown asked her suddenly, startling Lenia out of her thoughts.
"Nothing, Droloth, just..." Her voice trailed off, her mind wandered.
I've called Waenlath. I think her rider might come. Droloth said, just as suddenly.
"Wha-what?! You didn't have to bother them!"
You are lonely. You miss them. You miss her? He asked, tilting his head at her and wondering why she was trying to hide it from him.
"Nevermind. It's fine."

It had been a sevenday since she had impressed her beautiful Waenlath, and Nidoria was utterly exhausted! The dragon didn’t get the concept of sleeping… Well, not through the night at least. And she had bonded really well with Veskir, which was a surprise in a half, since from the first day, she had wanted to eat him. It didn’t even help that the dragon that walked at her side was as stubborn as a dull herdbeast. Sometimes, all she could think of doing was giving the dragonet a slap upside the head. She never did, but the Obsidian was amused by the thought. Weyrling training was also a heck of a lot tougher than anyone had ever told her. Well, at least she was used to little sleep, and long days. Talk about the things that holders didn’t know about dragonriders!
Waenlath rumbled as she followed Nidoria’s thought process, walking leisurely by her side, her large figure moving somewhat awkwardly upon land. Walking always got her very impatient. She was too big, too slow. Nidoria was fast and lithe… It wasn’t fair, not at all! She wanted to be like her bonded when she was upon that great big non-winged creature… A runnerbeast? That runner was fast! He could make her rider happy, and delighted. He could race across that ring faster than she could, and he could jump over jumps that she doubted she could ever jump. And if she admitted it to herself, she was jealous and envious. She loved her family, but she wanted to be better than that sharding runner. He was only dragonfodder, after all.
“Be nice, Waenlath.” Nidoria laughed, rubbing her dragon’s neck lovingly. “You know that I favor you above them. He’s jealous about you too.” She stated as she smiled at her dragon’s neatly oiled hide. It didn’t even shine! That was the horrible part! She had spent a candlemark oiling it, and cleaning it, and it was still as dark at night. No shimmer, no gloss, nothing. Talk about having a tough time making her gleamy!
~I don’t need to gleam, mine. I’m fine the way I am… Besides, Droloth has invited us to go visit him and his. I think we should drop in.~ The dragonet stated softly as she slowly started to make her way towards the infirmary.
Nidoria smiled faintly and changed her direction. It was hard to think of the fact that Waenlath didn’t remember what she had done at the hatching. She kept those thoughts to herself, but it made things awkward at times, especially when she inquired about the woman. Somehow, the dragon knew that she was important to her. But Nidoria was lucky if she even shook Lenia’s hand. The no touching policy was quite hard while a Weyrling…A few minutes later, they were walking through the infirmary door. A smile was on Nidoria’s face as soon as she noticed the other. It was nice seeing her.
“Hey now, doll. How are you feeling today?” She inquired using their older endearment name joke as she grabbed a chair and pulled it up towards the bed, sitting down happily. Her dragon, however, merely strolled towards the brown dragon.
~Well don’t you look cramped… How’s the infirmary floor?~ She inquired truthfully as Nidoria shot her bonded a look. Talk about inserting a foot into her own mouth. She was young, the Obsidian didn’t know anything about conversing with other creatures, she never insulted her rider… But she always seemed to say the wrong things around others. She didn’t get it.

Lenia could have sighed with relief as the door to the infirmary opened to reveal not another Healer, but Nidoria herself and her Waenlath. The brown Weyrling attempted to shuffle onto her back, but the still new skin on her back and legs was too painful to stretch. With a pained grunt she conceded to lay on her stomach as she had been before, though she did turn her head to look properly at Nidoria. At that very moment, she wished she could have a hug.
"Well, on the bright side, it is not I who has to feed and oil Droloth every candlemark of the day," Lenia said sarcastically. "On the negative, I can't roll onto my back to save my life, love."
She looked dejected and unhappy for a moment, but brightened an instant later, content just to see another Weyrling, even more so because it was Nidoria here and no one else.
"You? How are things going? I hear that I'm missing out on all kinds of wonderful training," She said a shark like grin stretching her face. Lenia looked mischievous and almost herself, for all she'd seen a week ago. In that, she was mildly oblivious to the conversation that passed between their dragonets.
I... He cut himself short, unsure if he should be insulted or not. It didn't seem like she was trying to be mean to him, but still! And of course, he couldn't be mean right back at her! That was impolite. Plus, she was a lady!
Well...Well, I'm sure it's not as comfortable as a bed, but I am here with my Lenia, so it is good.

“Oh please, don’t hurt yourself on my case.” Nidoria laughed, seeing her try to move over. The young woman did, however, grab her chair and place it at a more appropriate place so that the other wouldn’t have to strain herself to see her. She was glad that her friend was healing, though the damage done by her dragon was devastating. The words that followed only made her frown gently. She knew that her friend would probably love to be taking care of her dragon every moment of the day. It was hard to be separated from them.
“Hey, Hey! No more of that darker stuff, miss optimistic! You’ll be better soon, and then you can do all the boring, tiring stuff with us.” Nidoria laughed, trying to cheer her friend up some. Sure she might be bed ridden, but there were nights that she wished that she could be. If only to have a break!
She snickered softly, shaking her head. “Things are going good… Waenlath is jealous of Veskai (Just realized I was spelling his name a wrong. xD), and that makes everything an adventure when I have to go groom and run him. She’s bulky and… Well… Large… But she wants to be speedy… And it isn’t really working for the poor girl.” Nidoria admitted, whispering faintly while the two dragons were communicating. She knew that the Obsidian would deny it with a passion if she said it out loud.
~Yeah. That’s a good thing!~ The dragonet nodded with assertion as she looked around, before attempting to slink closer to him. ~Do you think… That there might be room for me too?~ Waenlath inquired softly, almost scared that he would say no. Her size inconvenienced her already! And some of the other dragons were scared of her! Heck, even the apathetic dragon was scared of her! It wasn’t like she was going to eat them! They kept getting in her way!

Stretching as much as she could and wishing she could get up, Lenia scooted a little closer so that her chin was propped up on the very edge of the bed. She shook the blankets off of her shoulders, growing too warm in the infirmary. Perhaps there was suddenly too many occupants in here for it was rarely anything but lukewarm, neither hot nor cold. Perhaps it was the fact that her heart was racing that made her thing she was sweltering. Either way, the blankets were far too hot! At least her body was thoroughly covered underneath - it wouldn't do well to let Nidoria gawk at the injuries her Weyrling had given her.
"I'll be fine. And anyways, a little pain is a small price to pay to talk to my favorite obsidian Weyrling," Lenia replied, a small smile warm on her face. As much as she could, she sat up some so that she could at least rest her chin on her hands and make it look like she was almost out of her incarceration.
"Mmm, optimistic, am I? I think I'll be out of here early next sevenday and if I'm not...well," Lenia trailed off, suggesting that whether the healers allowed her to or not, she'd be leaving her cot in the infirmary to her bed in the Weyrling Barracks.
"You know who I'm rooming with? None of the healers will say and I haven't seen the Weyrling Master," She said suddenly, perking up at this interesting thought.
She lapsed into silence while the other told her quietly about the little pump in the road she was facing with Waenlath's relative size and slowness. As best she could, she turned to look at the obsidian and chuckled softly. For his color, Droloth was large as well, but in comparison to the black dragonet who was a little smaller than one of the bronzes of their Weyrling class, Waenlath out sized him with no competition. She pitied the big thing, but figured that as soon as Waenlath got some height, she'd be not as massively large as she appeared to be now.
"I feel for her. She'll out grow some of it, though, and really make some of the boys look out of shape when she takes to the air. I bet she'll go on for hours."
Yeah, I hate when they have to take me away for food...and to take a bath. I have to leave her and it makes me sad... Droloth said, hanging his head for a moment at the unhappy memory.
The larger dragonet crept closer and he wasn't sure what to make of her intentions. It didn't seem like she was going to try to bully him, as she seemed alright. But that didn't matter. If Lenia enjoyed the company of Waenlath's, then he would be as nice as he could be! She was a lady, after all!
There's lots of room and I won't even have to scoot over! The brown said, surprising himself with this fact. She might be large, but the fact of the matter remained that they barely out stretched the largest of watchwhers right now. See? You can even sit next to me!

Watching her friend move closer to her, getting very close to the edge of the bed, Nidoria smirked faintly. Even now, she was still trying to get into her personal bubble. Talk about a friend that didn’t understand the concept of taking it easy and resting up, and getting better. As the blankets fell off, she felt a brow raise in question, wondering why her friend would even think of taking off the blankets. It wasn’t as though it was that warm in the infirmary. Besides, she felt a bit of fear at the thought of the injuries. She had seen enough of what her dragon had done, she didn’t need to see anymore of it.
“Too hot are we?” She teased almost flirtatiously. It was fun to do with Lenia, who tagged along more than willingly. It was always something that she found entertaining and relaxing. She couldn’t do it back home, and now that she had her dragon, she’d have to control herself. Such a pain. But as her friend moved again, she only shook her head. What a woman. Couldn’t lay in a bed for a couple of weeks and get better. “Couldn’t you not try to undress yourself in front of such innocent eyes?” the Obsidian rider laughed, catching the other’s words. Lenia would always be Lenia, it would seem!
Nidoria shot her a look at her other comment, eyes glinting faintly. “You better stay in bed missy…” She threatened as she waggled her finger, worry evident within her large eyes. She was scared, her friend had suffered deeply, and though she knew that it would all get better, but the thought still bothered her.
“Oh! You’re with Felicia, the Weyrling who has that wounded Green. That’s probably why no one has told you, no one knows.” She stated with a shrug of her shoulders. Heck, she was with the White dragon, which her black wasn’t too happy about… The white thing would be faster than her…
“Yeah, but she’ll never be fast, and that is what she wants, to be speedy… To be elegant. I don’t think that she cares about endurance at this point in her life.” She said with a soft laugh as she looked at the black with love and adoration. She knew that the black would train, even if only to gain the speed that she needed to keep up with the other dragons. She was a muscular one, she was, and it would be no small feat to get her body upon into the air. There were times where she wondered if her dragon would be able to carry both of their weight when they were older!
The obsidian nodded faintly, lowering her head towards the smaller dragon as she watched him, seeing how he was eyeing her. Slowly she puffed out her chest faintly, lifting her neck, looking down at him. It was almost as though she was threatening him to even try and say something bad about her, to judge her like the others did! But as more words came from his mind, she brightened up immensely, letting out a little croon as she waddled towards the other.
~Thank you…~ She spoke softly, setting herself beside the other dragon, and promptly brought her wings as close to her body as she could get them, and tried to make herself look smaller. She was trying not to be intimidating! She really was! But it wasn’t her fault! She didn’t compact that much!

If Lenia noticed the raise of her friend's eyebrow or sensed any apprehencion from the other's part, she hid it well. Indeed it was doubtful that she would have noticed, anyways. No matter how close they were likely to get, Lenia just isn't the type to get a good grasp of what someone's feeling with out them saying anything and this proved it. She had no idea that her friend might feel uncomfortable being confronted by the damages her dragonet had caused her nor was it her intention to rub it in her face. She was just what she was hot.
"Only around you, dearheart," Lenia quipped, grinning mischievously. Sometimes she didn't understand Nidoria. The girl could flirt all day, but hadn't actually acted on anything. Well, certainly she couldn't now, but still. Keeping her tone sensual and teasing, Lenia pressed, "Mmm, those eyes might be innocent now, but just wait until that dragonet of yours matures!"
She made a weak attempt to sit up for a moment and stopped herself with a defeated sigh. It hurt too much to use her back at all and she'd have no chance of propping herself up on her elbow for the pain. Life stank.
"Psh! You couldn't keep me in bed if you tried!" The Weyrling proclaimed, smiling smugly at her friend, doubting she'd rise to that bait. But perhaps it was cruel to nip at her about this particular subject, she reconsidered, seeing a flicker of worry in the others eyes. Yes, perhaps it was. "But for you, perhaps I can be persuaded otherwise."
Felicia. Drat it all. The Weyrling Master had ruined her chances of seducing her fellow Weyrling while their dragonets slept. Surely this greenriding ninny would narc on her if she tried to sneak out of their dorm at night. She snorted in disdain, rolling her eyes at the prospect of sharing with the green Weyrling and her injured dragonet.
"Wonderful..." She muttered, her gaze turning to the obsidian next to her brown. Yes, she was quite large. But not so much that she was hindered for her size except for on the ground.
"Speed, shmeed. She'll out-fly any blue or amber that comes a'chasin'."
Droloth, the much more perceptive of the Weyrling pair, seemed to understand what she was doing. From his Lenia's thoughts, he understood that she didn't like being big. She didn't like getting out walked by all the other dragonets. He couldn't fault her. He didn't like trying to race blues or greens! They made him feel slow and lethargic.
But, he liked this dragonet. Although perhaps he was influenced by his rider. His eyes whirled an amused blue as she scrunched her wings close to her sides, trying to look smaller than she was. Inhaling as much as his little dragon body could, he puffed his chest out, swelled his belly full of air and spread his wings a little while tensing the muscles in his body. He looked much bigger all of a sudden.
Look! We're almost the same size. He said cheerfully. Then sneezed, then fluffed down. It is better to be bigger. I'm big, too!

“Only around me? I’m honoured!” Nidoria countered as she leaned herself forward, her arms resting upon her knees as she stopped, her face mere inches away from Lenia’s. “Why aren’t I lucky!” She added as she leaned forward faintly. She knew that no matter how hard Lenia might try, there was no way that she was leaning this far out to reach her, thus her teasing could continue. Besides, the no-touch rule was in affect, and there was nothing that she could do about it, even if she wanted to act on what they were doing, she would have to wait until her dragon rose.. As her friend was oh so kindly pointing out to her.
“Ah, don’t worry about me. I’ve been around.” She snickered, just expecting the dragon Flight to be like any other experience, if not a bit harsher. It was nothing for her to think about. She didn’t get those flutters in her stomach at the thought of having to have sex, it would just be another experience in her life. No, the only disgust it brought her was the thought that she’d have to lay with another male. Gross. She had tried it a couple of times, and it wasn’t something that she ever wanted to try again. It didn’t help her that she had been trying to prove herself wrong. She had felt the disgust, and had been unable to look at a man again for weeks. Talk about an experience!
As her friend attempted to sit, she watched her slowly, sitting back into a more natural position as she kicked off her boots, leaned back in her chair, and placed her feet upon the edge of her friend’s bed. “Don’t worry, you’ll be in that bed as long as I say you have to.” She smirked, another flirtatious glint in her eyes as she watched her, relaxing. It was good times, these were!
“Trust me… I know. I’m sure that she could even outfly a brown with a fair amount of ease. It’s going to take some work catching that girl.” She chuckled as she stared at the black with a certain amusement. She knew that her dragon was always going to be playing hard to catch, and she enjoyed that thought. However, her eyes turned towards the brown that her friend was going to ride, and a wicked grin appeared upon her face, though she changed the direction of her gaze quickly. It was easy to see that Nidoria was highly amused, or plotting something.
Waenlath rumbled in amusement as the dragon tried to make himself as big as her, looking at the brown that was a bit bigger than she in height, his bulkiness had nothing on her though, which made her kind of annoyed. Even the males looked more feminine than her! There had to be some explanation to this!
~Well I look… FAT!~ She muttered angrily with a swish of her tail as she glared moodily at the bed, shaking out of her curled in stage, knowing that this frustration would never end. There was nothing that she could do to improve her speed… To her, seeing even the larger Queen, and bronzes move faster than her, it infuriated her. Why couldn’t she be like them?

As Nidoria's face loomed closer, Lenia's gaze concentrated...concentrated...concentrated...on one particular aspect of the others face: Her lips. She might have told Lenia that Rukbat had exploded, that Phaelith had just spontenously combusted, that every single soul on the planet of Pern had just dropped over dead and none of it would have made a difference in the slightest to the brown Weyrling. Reason, logic, judgement, her dragonet, all were plopped momentarily on the back burner of Lenia's mind.
"Just one?" She blurted without thinking, her voice rough and dazed. Droloth forgot about Waenlath next to him in the jumble of confused emotions inside of his rider. He warbled questioningly at her, startled, his eyes whirling lightly in distress.
Suddenly aware of her dragon, Lenia remembered herself, reddened, and looked sharply away from Nidoria, embarrassed. That wasn't supposed to have happened. How could she have even been so utterly stupid as to ask. Even if Nidoria was actually interested in her - though Lenia might be completely misinterpreting their relationship altogether - how could she even think of putting both of their dragons at such risk? Disgusted with herself, she pleaded her dragon's forgiveness with her eyes.
Lenia, what is wrong? I am confused. Why...? He asked, his head cocked to the side. Lenia got her emotions under control and sighed, dragging her hand over her face.
Nothing, I'm sorry, love. Won't happen again.
What won't I-
Nothing, dear. Forget about it.[/color]
Droloth was forced to be content and turned his attention back to Waenlath, his eyes slowly returning to a calm green.
You are not fat. Herdbeast are fat. I would not want to eat you.
As her dragonet settled back down, Lenia turned towards Nidoria, looking just as apologetic as she had before, hoping that she hadn't caused her friend to upset her own dragonet as well.
"Sorry," She said softly and lowered her gaze. For a moment she lapsed into silence, unsure if she should be the one to steer their conversation back to something - anything - to put what Lenia had asked of Nidoria behind them.
With an awkward cough, she attempted lamely, "I think Waenlath would be strong enough to fight in the queen's wing. Her size would do best there, rather than up with the smaller fighters."

Nidoria looked at the woman as she got closer, watching her stare at her, her gaze not focused upon her eyes, not at all. There was a part of her mind that wanted the other girl to be there, to just move forward, to take advantage of the opportunity that she was given. And when she asked for that sole and single kiss, there was a part of Nidoria that just wanted to lean in and give it to her, to see what it was like. She moved forward slowly only to see the other move away, and brought herself back into her chair swiftly, her head dropping to her hands as she couldn’t help but twine her fingers together, forcing herself to take deep breaths. They would have been in so much trouble.
Waenlath felt the alarm rushing out of her rider in mindless waves, and swiftly her eyes rimmed with yellow as she stared at her rider, trying to get through her thoughts. Slowly she took a step forward only to feel the vigilant ‘no’ that rang through her rider’s mind. There was something wrong, and her rider wouldn’t let her in. There was shame! Why was there shame?
Settling herself upon her haunches unhappily, she looked at the brown dragon beside her, rumbling faintly in distaste. ~You’re bigger than me… but I’m bulkier than you. You are a male! Even Veskai is slimmer than me! And he’s a runner!~ The dragon sulked, angry with her rider, angry with her weight. It wasn’t a nice day for her, not at all.
“I’m sorry… I shouldn’t have…” She cut off her words, wringing her hands one over the other, staring intensely at the floor. It had a pretty pattern, yup. In all truth, there was a part of her that wasn’t sorry about the fact that they had almost kissed. She didn’t want to take those words back, to take those actions back. It just wasn’t right… It had never been right, not with her family, not with her lifestyle, and even now, it wasn’t right. One would think that she would have caught the point by now.
“Yeah… I guess she can. You’ll probably be able to get the high wing, Med at worst.” Nidoria stated as she turned her gaze to look out the window. There had always been a need for speed in her life, it was why she had Veskai… And Eiko. To think that she would be stuck with the Queens… Her dragon was a fighting dragon, why did she have to stay with the Queens?! She didn’t get it, but that was the fate of her darling obsidian, sadly.
