Finally the hatching was getting on it's way, which made Avarian happy. She hadn't had to wait long, which made the circle of her thoughts that much easier to derail when the cute little green broke shell. It was rather a chubby little thing, Vari mused with a smile, but the green was very cute. As soon as she thought that, another egg hatched out a blue with some length to him. Then, a bronze hatched. Things were moving quickly now!
Just as Vari watched the little green wander to the girls, she heard a cracking sound as the clumsy blue dragonet collided with another egg. The held a dark dragon, or maybe it was just hard to see...No, it was black in color! Vari's eyes locked onto that anomaly, wondering what could have possibly caused a mutation like that. There was once a white dragon, she knew, but she'd never heard of a black dragon. Then to beat it all, the black dragon, which seemed rather feminine to her untrained eye, went and bumped another egg, assisting it to a quicker hatching. But it was another black! How odd, Avarian thought once more.
Quite suddenly, a shaking in front of her caught her attention, the gold egg sitting in the forefront of the women's circle of Candidates. It was finally deciding to grace them with it's regal presence! A smile crossed Vari's face and was gone just as quick as it came. The suspense would soon be ended, with the hatching of this egg. So many of the girls seemed to be solely concentrated on that one egg... Well, Vari thought, this would be interesting at least. She noticed the large egg closest to the gold egg was also shaking, getting ready to hatch. Then, miraculously both of the eggs hatched at the same moment. The gold egg hatched to reveal a perfectly normal gold dragonet, while the other hatched... a not so normal silver-colored dragonet. But this silver dragonet was built very much like the gold already, nearly the same size, and seemed quite feminine in the way it glared at the gold. Of course, the gold was also glaring at the silver, evidently sizing each other up.
Vari was mesmerized by the pretty silver, feeling drawn to the dragonet. She was about to take a step towards the silver dragonet when a crazed cry cut through her haze. She spun around quickly, locating the source. A man with a large knife was running across the sands, right by her and to the Weyrwoman, injuring her. Then, her attention shifted once again, as a serene tone entered her mind. Mine, I must help! Vari's sight re-centered on the silver-colored dragonet, and the only thing she could think of was getting her perfect partner out of the way of danger. She ran to her dragon, pushing her away from the action, the regal silver dragon resisting and wanting to take a bite out of the man threatening her siblings and the humans. Avarian guarded the dragoness with her body until they reached the wall of the Hatching Grounds, and then turned, slid down the wall to the warm sands, hands still on the dragonet now next to her. She sat on the sands, and surveyed the carnage she'd narrowly missed.
So many were injured, both dragons and people. There was blood and green ichor everywhere it seemed like. Vari was wide-eyed, and still holding onto the dragonet who spoken to her. The smooth hide under her hands helped to calm her. She hadn't expected to Impress like this, Vari thought ruefully. There wasn't much she could do to help until the actual healers got here, and then she could only be a help by assisting them, so she turned her attention to the dragonet she held onto tightly.
The silver color did seem to have a metallic sheen to it, much like the bronzes and golds she'd seen. Slowly, she loosened her grip on the dragon, who had long since stopped struggling when the crazy man had finally be killed by someone, which had been about when they'd reached the wall Vari was leaning against. The dragonet was now looking at her, rainbow still showing in her eyes as Avarian looked at her finally. Now that I have your attention, mine, I am Sorlith. I am also hungry and since you kept me from getting involved you will help the injured after you feed me. Judging from the clipped tones of Sorlith, she was rather peeved with Vari already. Which made Avarian frown at Sorlith, then retorted. "I was worried for you, love. I was worried that that man would be after you next!" Sorlith snorted at Avarian, I am capable of dealing with the likes of him, don't you worry about that mine! Which made the smile finally return to Vari's face. She looked around once more, seeing that things were being taken care of without her. And Sorlith still needed to be fed. So she got to her feet easily, long legs tensing beneath her as she stood up.
Then she set her right hand on Sorlith's shoulder, and carefully led the dragonet around the carnage and to the meat set out for them. After Sorlith had her fill, messily to boot, Avarian looked around to see what could still be done. Some of the healers might still need help, so Vari headed in their direction. She stopped as she saw a pretty little green dragonet being stitched on, one of the poor thing's wings was barely hanging on! Avarian paled, nearly tearing up, and made herself move on.Who could do something so horrible? The dragonets had never hurt a soul, how could that man do such a insane thing? Vari was surprised when an answer sounded in her head, from the dragon next to her. It's because he was insane, Vari-mine. Sorlith sagely informed her. The dragonet was steadily getting tired after eating, but she was determined to follow Vari until Vari did what she'd told her to do.
((Hopefully this will have everything covered.... XD))
